Chippa United Sacks Morgan Mammila
Coach Morgan Mammila has gotten the sack from Chippa United, and he’s got something to say about it.
On Monday, 27 February, Mammila was fired by Chippa following their 2-1 defeat to Swallows FC the previous day. The club now sits at 13th place on the Premier Soccer League rankings with a meagre six points.
In an interview with a local media outlet on Tuesday, 28 February, Mammila surprisingly gave himself a mostly harsh critique.
“Let’s be honest, I am not a superior coach,” he said. “I just started yesterday, and even I wouldn’t risk my status and give it to someone like me. That is why I am saying let’s congratulate Chippa for taking a good decision to hire me, and a decision [United owner Siviwe Mpengesi] made all on his own without being influenced by anyone.
“He saw that I could be a good coach all by myself … I am congratulating him on how it started and how it has ended. We don’t have to look only at the end product, we have to look at how it started.”
Assistant coach Kurt Lentjies will take over Mammila’s duties in the interim until Chippa hires a new coach.
